Whisky Distillery Launches Unique "Community Cask" Program in Our Council

Hector Hectopascal 10/24/2024

The Kirkenduff Distillery, a cornerstone of the local economy and a celebrated name in Scottish whisky, has announced its "Community Cask" program, an innovative project designed to foster local engagement and create a unique spirit.

The program invites residents of Kirkenduff and the surrounding council area to participate directly in the creation of a special batch of whisky. Unlike traditional distillery tours, the Community Cask offers an opportunity for individuals to attend exclusive mashing and fermentation sessions, witnessing the initial stages of whisky production up close. Participants will also have their names engraved on a commemorative plaque that will be displayed alongside the maturing cask.

"We wanted to do something truly special for the community that has supported us for generations," said Alistair Grant, Master Distiller at Kirkenduff Distillery. "The Community Cask isn't just about making whisky; it's about sharing our heritage and creating a piece of history that belongs to everyone here."

The chosen spirit will be matured in a single, specially selected oak cask for a period of ten years. Once bottled, a portion of the limited-edition whisky will be given to the participating community members, while the remaining bottles will be sold, with all proceeds directed towards local community projects. The specific projects will be chosen by a public vote among residents.

Local resident and whisky enthusiast, Moira Fraser, expressed her excitement. "To be able to say you had a hand in making a whisky from our own town, and that it's going to benefit Kirkenduff – it's just wonderful. I've already signed up!"

The Kirkenduff Distillery expects high demand for the limited number of participation slots. This unique program not only offers a rare glimpse into the art of whisky making but also reinforces the deep connection between the distillery and the community it calls home.
